This week I shot my scenes for WHEN THE MOON WAS TWICE AS BIG playing the role of Thomas!
The film is split into two sections, one half in 1969 and the other half forty years later. My character, Thomas, is a test-pilot that appears in the scenes taking place in 1969.
Period pieces are my absolute favorite to film, and there's no period quite as stunningly filled with bold and gaudy fashions as the late 60's and the 70's. While not quite full-out funky fresh, the timeline did allow me to tease out the 'ol curly fro and grow out a Burt Reynolds mustache for the part. Thomas was great fun to play, and the sense of place that director Bill Jacobs and the fantastic cast and crew were able to capture was truly magic.
Here is a synopsis of WHEN THE MOON WAS TWICE AS BIG:
In each of our lives come moments when dreams are sparked and a course is set toward the life we imagine. So it is as we follow ten-year-old Jack in the summer of 1969.
Inspired by an extraordinary new friend, his test-pilot father, and history unfolding as humankind first walks on the moon, Jack’s passion for space ignites within him.
But life-changing events alter Jack’s course.
Forty years later, as he faces his fiftieth birthday, Jack finds he’s landed far from the life he pictured at age ten. Now he must choose whether to simply accept and settle -- or follow the dreams of his youth, born in a time when life had more color, everything seemed possible...
... and the moon was twice as big. Filming continues throughout the rest of the summer in Pennsylvania.
WHEN THE MOON WAS TWICE AS BIG also stars Mary Jo Catlett (Diff'rent Strokes, General Hospital, Miss Puff on Spongebob Squarepants)
